Affordable Housing for Veterans and First Responders

Veteran and First Responder Housing

(VFR Housing) is an organization that supports the well-being of Canada’s veterans and first responders by providing safe, affordable housing while fostering community, dignity, and resilience through peer support, tailored programming, and access to essential services.

VFR Housing is proposing a multi-level apartment complex in Sudbury, that will contain approximately 60 affordable units of one, two and three-room spaces, and will prioritize the tenancy of veterans and first responders (VFRs), and their families. The VFR group includes both serving and released/retired veterans, police, firefighters, paramedics, correction officers, nurses, and 911 operators. Many in this group are considered vulnerable as per the National Housing Strategy (NHS). The entire complex will be designed to fit the special needs of VFRs, including accessible parking, a number of units that meet the guidelines of the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA), and spaces for mental and physical health support and programs.
